Sierra Trading Post: THE place for winter clothes

I have a new favorite store. About a month ago, I started thinking about Ireland in the winter. Maybe this a little overboard for 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit, but I wanted to make sure we had the supplies to stay out in rainy, windy 30-degree-weather for 3 hours straight. We do live in Indiana, however, and it can stay below that for a significant length of time.

Also, since Rachel doesn’t have that good of circulation and doesn’t have a room or an office at Horizon, she has to put all her art supplies (including all the kids homework, 1st-12th grade) in her car and drive it around the school campus this winter–so she’ll be outside a lot this winter unfortunately needing the fleece and down and such.

Last winter, I bought a 550-fill down coat at BackCountryOutlet and was happy with it. While researching an item I was considering purchasing there, I stumbled onto Sierra Trading Post. It’s an outlet store, so they only have last year’s colors (like we care) and only in certain sizes (which can be a problem for a man that usually wears small and a women that usually wears x-small).

So here’s the list of what we got, hopefully it will all last, at least, ten years:

For Rachel:
Columbia 550-Fill Down Parka
Expedition Weight Top Base Layer
Columbia Thermal Bottoms Base Layer
Polartec 200 Fleece Jacket
Wool Socks (4 pairs)
Expedition Weight Balaclava
Fleece Neck Gaiter
Wool Fingerless Gloves

For Stephen:
Midweight Zip-Up Top Base Layer
Polartec 200 Fleece Jacket
Sport Socks (2 pairs)
Hiking Socks (3 pairs)
Expedition Weight Balaclava
Windproof Insulated Fleece Gloves
Fleece Neck Gaiter
Wool Fingerless Gloves

On top of the already low prices, we saved 15% off some items and 20% off other items. So the total for all this came just over $250. That is about 30% of the retail price. I also got an ankle length Skipper’s Long Raincoat, but I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m not sure if I?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢m going to keep it.

The first time I visited them, I found it interesting that in their “We Believe” it says

“That our business ethics must be consistent with the faith of the owners in Jesus Christ and His teachings.”

You don’t see that very often unless people are selling Bibles and bumper stickers online.
